GOOGLE APP PRIVACY POLICY

The short version

This notice explains the information used by the My SOS Family Android app distributed through Google Play, including optional Android permissions and Google Play Data safety information.

It supplements our Global Privacy Policy. The Global Privacy Policy contains the full information about our company, legal bases, international transfers, retention, rights and complaints. If the two documents appear inconsistent, the Global Privacy Policy applies unless this notice gives more specific information about the Android app.

Global Privacy Policy  https://www.mysosfamily.com/privacy-policy

Terms and Conditions  https://www.mysosfamily.com/terms

We do not sell or lease personal information. We do not use SOS messages, precise location, SOS Contact details, private chat content, internet-call audio or Naya conversation content for targeted advertising.

The app is a personal safety and communications service. It is not a replacement for the police, ambulance, fire service or another emergency service. Naya is an everyday-conversation AI companion. It is not a health, medical, mental-health, therapy, wellbeing, clinical, diagnostic, treatment or crisis service.

2. What the Android app may process

The information depends on the features you choose, the permissions you grant and the app version installed. It may include the following.

  • Account details:

Your name, mobile number, email address, country, language, settings and authentication information.

  • SOS Contact details:

The name, telephone number, email address, relationship and alert channels for people you choose.

  • Device and app information:

Device type, operating system, app version, language, push token, limited service identifiers, permissions, security data and crash or diagnostic information.

  • Location:

Static or live location provided by the device when you activate an SOS, SOS Timer, Check-in or location-sharing feature and allow the permission.

  • Safety-event information:

The feature used, date, time, selected contacts, alert delivery result, response status and limited records needed to operate, protect or investigate the event.

  • Communications:

Calls, SMS, email and app-notification submission, delivery, failure, response and opt-out information.

Private chat. Message content while it waits for delivery, delivery information and copies held on participating devices.

  • Photos, videos and files:

Items you choose to take or select and attach to a message or alert.

  • Voice interaction:

Microphone input when you deliberately use a voice feature and limited information needed to process the command.

  • Internet calling:

Participants, date, time, connection status and limited security or diagnostic information. We do not record or keep call audio.

  • Naya:

What you type, limited conversation context, optional memory, usage allowance and limited feature activity needed to provide the reply.

  • Purchases:

Google Play purchase, subscription, receipt and entitlement status. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.

  • Support:

Information you provide when asking for help, reporting a problem or making a privacy request.

Attribution and analytics. Limited app-install, campaign, app-interaction, device, crash and diagnostic information used to understand reliability and whether our advertising works.

3. Android permissions and sensitive APIs

Permissions are requested only when needed for a feature. You may refuse or later withdraw a permission through Android settings. The related feature may then be unavailable or work with reduced capability.

3.1 Location, including background location

My SOS Family may collect and transmit precise or approximate location to enable an SOS, SOS Timer, Check-in or live-location feature that you choose, including while the app is closed or not in use when the active feature needs to continue.

Location may be sent to the SOS Contacts or other recipients you selected. It may also be processed by contracted communications, mapping, hosting, security and delivery providers only as needed to operate or protect the feature.

We do not use precise location for targeted advertising. We do not continuously track a user by default. You can stop an active live-location session in the app and can change Android location permission at any time.

Where Google Play requires a prominent disclosure and consent, the app must show that disclosure immediately before the Android permission request. This website notice does not replace that in-app step.

3.2 AccessibilityService API

My SOS Family is not presented as an accessibility tool. An optional feature may use Android AccessibilityService so that a deliberate, configured long press of the device power button can be recognised as the user action that starts the selected SOS process.

The AccessibilityService is used only for this user-enabled app function. It is not used for advertising, analytics or profiling. It is not used to read screen content, passwords, private messages, browsing activity or general keystrokes, and it is not used to change device settings or perform unrelated actions.

The AccessibilityService itself does not collect location. Location is handled separately under the Android location permission and only for the location-enabled features described above.

Before the feature is enabled, the app must provide the separate prominent disclosure and affirmative consent required by Google Play.

The AccessibilityService declaration in Play Console and the demonstration video provided to Google must match the live feature and this notice.

3.3 Contacts

You can enter an SOS Contact manually. Where available, the app uses Android contact-selection controls so you can select a person without giving the app continuing access to the whole address book. A version that requests contact permission uses it only when you choose to import a contact for the service.

The app does not upload or use an entire address book for advertising. Only the details you select for the person's My SOS Family role are sent to our service. You must have that person's express permission before adding them.

3.4 Microphone and voice

If you choose a voice feature, the app may use the microphone to recognise your instruction and provide the requested app response. Microphone access is not used continuously. We do not use microphone input for advertising.

A device, operating-system or contracted speech service may process the audio or resulting text as needed to recognise the command. We do not keep a general library of microphone recordings.

3.5 Camera, photos, videos and files

If the feature is available and you choose to use it, the app may access the camera to take a new image or video, or use Android selection controls to access an existing item. Only the item you choose is attached to the message or alert. We do not scan the wider library for advertising.

3.6 Notifications and device services

The app may request notification permission and use a push token so that it can deliver alerts, replies, check-in reminders and service information. Device settings control whether notifications are shown. Some features also rely on Android background execution, battery and network services. These technical services do not remove the need for the permissions and choices described here.

3.7 Wear OS

A supported Wear OS app works as a companion to the My SOS Family Android phone app. The user first creates an account in the phone app and links the wearable through the app settings. The linked devices may exchange account status, commands, alert status and limited technical information needed to provide the selected feature.

4. SOS Contacts, calls, SMS and email

SOS is used to alert people you know. You must have each person's express permission before adding them as an SOS Contact or arranging alerts to them. Where a direct invitation or confirmation is offered, the contact must confirm before that route becomes active.

Account verification codes and alerts are service or transactional communications. They are not marketing messages. An SOS Contact can use STOP where supported, use another removal route in the message, ask the user to remove them or contact us directly. We keep a limited suppression record where needed so an opt-out is respected.

Mobile and roaming charges depend on the recipient, network and plan. My SOS Family does not control charges imposed by a mobile or internet provider.

If internet service is unavailable, a supported app version may prepare a device SMS for the user to send or show a telephone route the user can call. The user remains in control of the device message or call.

5. Private chat, Naya and internet calls

5.1 Private chat

Private chat messages are encrypted while being sent. Our central delivery service keeps a message only while needed to deliver it and removes it after delivery. Copies remain on participating devices until the user deletes them, removes the app or chooses to save or export them. We do not routinely read or monitor private chat content.

5.2 Naya

Naya sends the prompt and limited context needed for the conversation securely to a contracted AI provider in the United States. We do not send a name, telephone number or email address to the content field for a reply. Our contracted AI provider is not permitted to use Naya content to train general-purpose models. We do not deliberately attach ordinary account identifiers such as a name, telephone number or email address to conversation content.

Limited context may be held to maintain continuity and can be viewed and cleared within Naya. Naya content is not used for advertising. Naya can make mistakes. It must not be relied on for professional advice, urgent help or an emergency response.

5.3 Internet calls

Where secure internet calling is available, specialist connection services help authorised participants connect. We may process participant, time, connection, network, security and diagnostic information needed to set up and protect the call. We do not record or retain call audio.

6. Why we use the information

  • create, authenticate and manage an account

  • provide SOS, SOS Timer, Check-in, chat, calling, location and other chosen features

  • reach the people selected by the user and manage replies and opt-outs

  • process purchases, subscriptions, vouchers, entitlements and refunds

  • provide Naya replies and user-controlled context

  • protect the app, prevent abuse, investigate delivery and diagnose faults

  • answer support and privacy requests

  • understand reliability, accessibility and feature use using the minimum information needed

  • measure app-install campaigns and promote My SOS Family without using safety data or private content

  • meet legal, accounting, safeguarding, regulatory and dispute requirements

7. Providers and sharing

We do not sell or lease personal information. We provide limited information to contracted service providers only where needed to operate, protect, support or measure the app. Provider categories may include UK hosting, telephone calls, SMS, transactional email, marketing email, push notifications, mapping, speech processing, payments, security, analytics, crash reporting, advertising measurement, internet calling and AI.

Google processes Google Play accounts, purchases, subscriptions, device services, push delivery, advertising attribution and related platform information under Google privacy terms. We receive limited entitlement, receipt, attribution, push and technical information needed for the service.

Information may also be provided to the recipients selected by the user, an employer or organisation arranging the service, professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement or a lawful successor where permitted or required by law. The full recipient and international-transfer information appears in the Global Privacy Policy.

8. Google Play Data safety

The Google Play Data safety form must describe the combined data practices of every active Android version distributed under the app package, including data processed through third-party libraries and SDKs. It may use Google category names that differ from this notice.

Depending on the live version and features, relevant Google categories may include personal information, contacts, precise or approximate location, messages, photos, videos, audio or voice input, files, app activity, app information and performance, device or other identifiers, and purchase information.

The form must accurately identify whether each category is collected, shared, required or optional, its purpose, whether data is processed temporarily, whether data is encrypted in transit and whether deletion can be requested. The Play Console declaration, Android permissions, SDK behaviour, in-app disclosures and this notice must always agree.

A permission listed in Android does not by itself mean that information is collected. Conversely, information sent off the device through an SDK or provider may need to be declared even where the user does not see a separate Android permission.

9. Security, retention and deletion

We use technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity and risk of the information. Information sent between the app and our service is protected in transit using modern encryption. No internet service is risk-free.

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose, user choice, safety, security, opt-outs, tax, disputes and legal requirements. Detailed retention periods and approaches are in section 21 of the Global Privacy Policy.

You can request account deletion from within the app. You can also sign in through the external web account route at https://app.mysosfamily.com and use the available account controls. If you cannot use either route, email info@mysosfamily.com.

Account deletion removes or schedules deletion of personal information associated with the account. Limited information may remain where needed for an opt-out, security, fraud prevention, tax, a legal claim or a protected backup cycle. Deleting the My SOS Family account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Google Play subscriptions must be managed separately through Google Play.

10. Your choices and rights

  • grant, refuse or withdraw Android permissions

  • stop an active location-sharing session

  • edit account and SOS Contact details

  • remove an SOS Contact or ask us to record an opt-out

  • delete local chat messages or remove the app from the device

  • view or clear Naya context and optional memory where available

  • request access, correction, deletion, portability or another right available under local law

  • object to or restrict certain processing and withdraw consent where it is the basis used

  • change cookie, marketing and advertising choices through the relevant controls

To exercise a privacy right, email privacy@mysosfamily.com or info@mysosfamily.com. We may verify identity and authority before acting. The Global Privacy Policy explains rights for the United Kingdom, EEA, United States, Canada and Quebec, Australia, India, Colombia and other countries.

11. Children

The service is not directed to children acting independently. A base account for a person under 18 must be created and supervised by a parent or guardian in accordance with the service and local law. We do not knowingly sell or share a child's personal information for targeted advertising.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this notice when the Android app, permissions, providers or Google Play requirements change. We will update the date and version at the top. For a material change, we will provide suitable notice and obtain fresh consent where the law or Google Play requires it.
